Here are some delicious and nutritious dessert recipes using common herbs and spices that you should try making at home:

Cinnamon Crispies

What you need:

8 cups crispy rice cereal
1 1/4 cups miniature marshmallows
1 cup slivered almonds
1/4 cup raisins
1/4 cup butter
2 tbsps. ground cinnamon

In a large saucepan, melt the butter along with the marshmallows over medium heat while stirring constantly. Remove from heat then throw in the cereal, almonds, raisins and cinnamon. Press the mixture in a greased pan, about 8x8 inches in size. Allow to cool for at least 20-30 minutes, cut into squares then serve.

Nutmeg Sugar Cookies

What you need:

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup butter
2/3 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup white sugar
1 medium egg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
1/2 tsp. ground nutmeg
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. cream of tartar

To make the cookie dough, mix together butter, brown sugar and white sugar in a large bowl until smooth. Beat in the egg then throw in the flour, vanilla extract, nutmeg, salt and cream of tartar. Stir until all ingredients are well-blended. Divide the dough into 2-inch rolls, wrap in aluminum foil and refrigerate for at least 1 day up to 1 week. When ready, slice the rolls into 1/4-inch rounds then arrange in a baking sheet. Bake in a pre-heated oven (200 degrees Celsius) for 6-8 minutes or until the edges are lightly browned.

Tropical Ginger Cooler

What you need:

1 medium orange, peeled
2 medium carrots, peeled and sliced into chunks
1-inch fresh ginger, peeled
1/2 cup seedless red grapes
8-10 ice cubes
1/4 cup distilled water

Place orange, carrots, ginger, grapes, ice cubes and water in a blender and process until smooth. Pour into a glass and top with a few pieces of red grapes or a slice of orange if desired. Consume immediately.

Creamy Allspice Frosting

What you need:

4 cups confectioner's sugar
1/3 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
2 tbsps. milk
1 tsp. vanilla extract
3/4 tsp. ground allspice



Combine butter, cream cheese and allspice in a medium bowl. Stir until well-blended, gradually mixing in the sugar, milk and vanilla extract. Stir until mixture is smooth and spreadable. The frosting is ideal to use for cupcakes, sponge cakes and cookies.
