Alright, it’s confession time… I’ve been on a baking kick lately and I don’t know what is up with my brain at the moment, but I cannot stop eyeing desserts on Pinterest. Pinterest is dangerous business. (But if you too want to torture yourself with gorgeous dessert photos, let’s connect and oogle over dessert boards together.)
I’m not quite sure if the world needs more dessert inspiration, but I thought it would be fun to round-up my favorite 15 grain-free and dairy-free desserts and share these recipes with you. These recipes are completely grain-free, gluten-free, dairy-free, and free of refined sugar. They also work well for folks who are vegan or follow the paleo/primal lifestyle.
Let’s get to it!
#1: CHOCOLATE-COVERED BANANAS WITH COCONUT AND SEA SALT
This recipe involves bananas dipped in chocolate and topped with coconut flakes and sea salt. I think I just died and went to dessert heaven.
#2: CHOCOLATE AND ALMOND BUTTER SOFT SERVE
Did you know that you can make amazing “soft serve” in a food processor using bananas, cacao powder, and almond butter? Heck yes! I think this was one of my greatest discoveries of 2012. No joke.
#3: GLAZED DONUT PEACHES WITH VANILLA CREME
I’m a big fan of incorporating fresh fruit into desserts and relying on the natural sugars for sweetness. This one involves ripe, seasonal peaches dipped in a vanilla creme glaze made from cashews. Yum.
#4: GRAIN-FREE ALMOND CUPCAKES WITH CHOCOLATE AVOCADO FROSTING
You feel like baking, ay? This one’s for you! These cupcakes are an absolute dream and I can’t be trusted to just eat one.
(Note: this recipe does involve egg, so feel free to use an egg substitute to create a vegan version if desired.)
#5: ICED TEA FRUIT POPS
This recipe is simple and only needs two ingredients: iced tea and fresh fruit. Alright, it may be winter in the Pacific Northwest right now, but I’m getting sunny vibes just from looking at these.
#6: DATES WITH ALMOND BUTTER AND COCONUT
Need a straightforward dessert that can be assembled in under a minute? Done. This is one of my favorite ways to eat dates and I’ve often been known to call these an afternoon snack.
#7: LAVENDER COCONUT ICE CREAM
How do you feel about lavender in desserts? I’m a big fan, especially when you combine it with bananas and coconut milk for a dairy-free ice cream that can be made right in your food processor. It’s too good to be true.
#8: RAW CARROT CAKE CUPCAKES
Does the word “raw” in a dessert scare you? Don’t worry, there’s no raw egg in this one. In fact, this “cake” is constructed from nuts without the use of any traditional baking ingredients like flour, butter, baking powder, or eggs! How awesome is that?
#9: ENERGIZING RAW COCONUT MACA FUDGE
This fudge only involves a handful of ingredients, is quick to make, and literally melts in your mouth. Don’t blame me if you eat more than one piece.
#10: SUGAR-FREE COCONUT VANILLA ICE CREAM
Ice cream can be a challenge for some. I mean, it’s usually loaded with sugar and full of dairy (two things I try to avoid) and most of the DIY versions involve the use of an ice cream maker. I love ice cream, but I only like kitchen gadgets that can multi-task. This recipe solves all of these issues with a deliciously creamy sugar-free coconut vanilla ice cream that can be made right in your food processor. You can thank me later.
#11: COCONUT-CACAO COVERED STRAWBERRIES
Ahh, a simple twist on a classic dessert. Whether you’re making these for someone special or just treating yourself, these are sure to please.
#12: RAW CHOCOLATE SUPERFOOD PUDDING
I made this dessert for Earth Day a few years ago and I still get a kick out of the fact that it kinda looks like a plant. Of course, it tastes nothing like dirt so perhaps I shouldn’t have said that. Yikes.
Traditional puddings use heavy cream for the base, but this recipe uses chia seeds and almond milk to create a thick, creamy texture without the dairy. Plus, it looks cool and is fun to eat.
#13: SUGAR-FREE DAIRY-FREE FUDGESICLES
Who needs traditional fudgesicles when you can make your own version with three simple ingredients. Kids love ’em too!
#14: FROZEN RASPBERRIES WITH COCONUT BUTTER
I love the tartness of fresh raspberries combined with homemade coconut butter, but this recipe also works well with any berries or seasonal fruit of your choice.
#15: RAW CHOCOLATE COCONUT CUPCAKES WITH AVOCADO FROSTING
And last, but not least, the raw chocolate coconut cupcakes that changed my life. Grain-free, gluten-free, and completely flour-less, I know you’ll love these as much as I do!
